Talented youngsters head for Harper Adams
Posted 7 April 2006
TALENTED youngsters from Shropshire are set to have a sustainable Easter with Harper Adams University College.
The Newport based university college are inviting 29 children to an annual four-day Easter School for able and talented.
The 10 and 11-year-olds were selected by their school to take part in the scheme. They will visit Harper Adams every day between April 10th and 13th and will work on the theme of sustainable practice.
The youngsters will participate in practical workshops that will challenge their thinking on the environment, recycling, food production and the welfare of animals. The workshops are led by the lecturing staff and assisted by current Harper students.
At the end of the four-day project, the year six pupils will present their experiences, by powerpoint, to their parents as well as their school and Harper Adams’ staff in the lecture theatre.
Jane Batchelor, School & College Liaison at Harper Adams University College, commented on the scheme: “The staff at Harper Adams look forward to the Easter School, it is great to work with such enthusiastic and talented young people. Every morning the students arrive excited to embark on the challenges we set them. Their presentations at the week are usually of a very high standard. I know any university would happily enroll all of our ex-Easter School students!"
The children attending the summer school were from primary schools; Lilleshall, Crudington, St Peter and St Paul, St Peter’s Edgemond, St Lawrence Preston, Tibberton, and High Ercall.
The Easter School will be followed by the Year 11 Summer School and the Children's University which is for Year Six pupils across Telford & Wrekin.
